Herkimer Curves® Named a Curves Elite® Club

Recognition Given to Local Fitness Franchise for Service and Quality

Curves®, the world's largest franchisor of fitness clubs, today announced that the Herkimer Curves club has earned the prestigious Curves Elite® designation. This recognition is given to clubs that meet rigorous standards in their business practices, service quality, and adherence to the Curves methods.

"The Curves Elite program recognizes the best Curves locations for providing an outstanding member experience," said Curves' Vice President of Operations Christina Russell. "Members expect to receive great quality and service at all of our locations, and the Elite clubs set the standard for excellence that all of our clubs aspire to."

Clubs applying for Curves Elite status must work with Curves International to elevate their clubs to the required standards, including offering the new Curves Complete® program. Curves Complete is the only weight-loss program of its kind that includes diet, exercise, and motivation in one convenient location.

To offer Curves Complete, clubs must certify through an intensive training program developed in partnership with the prestigious Cleveland Clinic. This certification program prepares staff members to provide effective one-on-one weight-loss coaching and to fully utilize all of the tools Curves Complete offers. Elite status is given only to clubs that have completed this certification and meet the highest standards in all aspects of their business.

"Becoming a Curves Elite club wasn't easy," said Nancy Noonan, Herkimer Curves franchise owner. "But the process helped us take our club to the next level. Now we're Curves Complete and Curves Elite, and we are proud to share that recognition with our Herkimer members."

Curves Elite clubs receive many benefits from the designation, including vendor discounts, designation on the Curves.com website, and special recognition at corporate events. They are also an important source of inspiration and education for other clubs in the system.

"Our Curves Elite clubs deserve to be recognized for their efforts," said Russell. "Their commitment to helping every member reach her fitness and weight loss goals is an inspiration. Our goal is for every club to be a Curves Elite club like Herkimer Curves."

Erie Canal Boat

Gems Along the Mohawk Welcomes Lil' Diamond III

Herkimer, NY - Just across the road from the New York State Thruway Exit 30 on the Erie Canal in Herkimer, sits a gem of the area presenting a little bit of everything the Mohawk Valley has to offer. As Gems Along the Mohawk celebrates its ten year anniversary, it is complimented with a new treasure, cruise boat Lil' Diamond III. "It is with warmth, pride and excitement that we welcome Lil' Diamond III as a special and vital part of our multi-faceted complex" said Dr. Renee' Scialdo Shevat, Developer and Owner of Gems Along the Mohawk.

Gems Along the Mohawk has 10 years of successful experience on the historic Erie Canal, with the NYS Canal Corporation, the Village of Herkimer and its 70 vibrant partners. Over the 10 years Gems has had the pleasure of working with the 36 passenger Lil' Diamond I and the 64 passenger Lil' Diamond II, both captained by Jerry Gertz. "Each partner applauds the expedient construction of Lil' Diamond III and eagerly and unanimously embraces its potential on the Erie Canal in Central New York" said Dr. Shevat. "One of my most strategic business decisions was to partner with Jerry and Kim Gertz ten years ago - the cruise has brought both magic and inspiration to the Erie Canal", adds Shevat.

"The vessel was the dream of my late wife, Kim" explains Captain Jerry Gertz. "She thought what was needed in our business was a two deck vessel that could handle both private parties and sightseeing," Gertz said. Together they had drawn up rough plans for what they wanted in a new vessel, giving motivation and inspiration to continue with their dream. After many false starts with other Naval Architects and yards, Gertz took those sketches and plans to John Scarano who made it all possible. "Scarano Boat Builders have been wonderful to work with and after having built several other passenger vessels over my 38 year career in the business I couldn't believe how easy they were to work with" added Captain Gertz. The vessel is a catamaran 65 feet in length with a 20 foot beam. It draws only 14" lightship and about 27" fully loaded - an amazing engineering job. Her air draft is only a little over 19 feet which gives great flexibility on the Canal. It is expected that the vessel will receive a minimum USCG certification for 130 passengers, but will limit her use to about 110 passengers. She's powered by twin 250 HP Honda 4 strokes, an unusual arrangement for a passenger vessel of this size.

Brian U. Stratton, Director of the New York State Canal Corporation, said, "The New York State Canal System contributes nearly $380 million annually through tourism through this historic corridor, and a large part of that significant impact can be attributed to businesses like Gems Along the Mohawk and Erie Canal Cruises. We congratulate Captain Gertz on this wonderful new vessel, and look forward to seeing the Lil' Diamond III plying the waters of the Erie Canal from its base at Gems Along the Mohawk for years to come."

On Saturday, September 1st, Gems Along the Mohawk and the Waterfront Grille will have a more formal celebration for Lil' Diamond III and Captain Gertz. The celebration will be accompanied by The Big Easy Band, a local 17 piece ensemble.

The Gems Along the Mohawk complex is open all year, seven days per week with specialty shopping, waterfront dining at the Waterfront Grille, and tourism information. The lock-through cruises operate May through October.

CTM in Frankfort announces new green initiative

By WKTV News
May 1, 2012 at 5:31 PM EDT

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local company announced a new green initiative on Tuesday.

CTM in Frankfort is already a high precision engineering machine shop, but on Tuesday the company announced a new partnership along with grant money to make it a green engineering machine shop.

The company is getting funds to train its workers on policies that are environmentally friendly, which they say will help take a closer look at CTM's impact on the air, land and water that surrounds the company.

"Our next step in the process will be to work with an accredited agency and becoming certified to that standard, which allows us to do the work with companies such as Toyota, Boeing and Ford."

The training the workers received in Frankfort can be used in green initiatives across the globe.
